wonderful container house in nz.. found theme!

i spy window glazing

well.. i went on a little container rampage.. someone here in savannah (a fairly large shipping port) is always selling off shipping containers ... hmm.. i have always been attracted to the reuse idea of them and the modular modern look... but throw our eclictic stuff in there.. surrre... so i feel bad becuase i got all of these photos and did not really collect and organize the links.. i have been worked and being lazy tonight.. sorry!!! here is a list of some sites..
materialicious amazing site with fantastic features!
i am especially excited about the concept of the above project... the container cottage... the individual is posting and documenting a how to step by step of the progess.. exciting stuff my friends!!!!

funny little collection.. but i hope that one day i could get some cheap little peice of land in the middle of nowhere... ha.. and just live my life... haha.. joke.. locavore spirit coming thorough..

La Petite Reine .. i check out springwise.com once and a while for some new ideas and things.. and today i saw something that was really interesting... this paris based project in fantastic.. eco.. get thoes big trucks off the streets and keep people on bikes.. yay! i would love to fit this sort of thing out with some basic food prep and have amobile food cart. sure

Maarten Baas had a real interesting collection in milan... this beautiful old table first cought my eye... but then i noticed these clay chairs around it.. i did a little project where i bought that plastic which you can dip items in.. not too succesful but this makes me want to try it again for this sort of 'melting' effect..

Jo Nagasaka designed the Bench 2... so fun and i would love to go for a big yard sale/thrift hunt and put something like this together for out entrance.. you know.. sit.. take shoes off.. have a spit fight.. haha.. i know i am not the only one that had spit fights with friends at sleepovers as a kid.. lucky for me.. i have major range! look out! ha

Saturday, April 19

well.. andrea and i are STILL looking for lights for above our bar... why is lighting so damm expensive?? well.. we have found a few options at this point in our range but have not found the 'perfect' set yet.. i like these... from Droog they are energy light friendly! which i think is a gooda thing!

well to start we have a few classics found in my usual local (31401) ebay motors search.. there are always amazing finds to be had in there.. now with the job hopfully i can save and get myself a little project on wheels.. so fun to get your hands full of grease! I just love that old chev truck.. its funny.. i am not a total car guy but i am real attracted to the older models and the lines they have.. yup.. true story. I could picture me rolling around my farm.. pulling up to my crop and doing some digging with my gold plated tools.. haha Studio Job, a wonderful designhaus has a little FARM series going on in milan right now at the fair.. so fun! makes me want to get out my rattle can and find myself an old _________ (i will let you fill in the blanks here.. but i am sort of thinking maybe golf club.. skillet.. maybe even a _______) you get the idea.. weekends are real nice when you work all week.. today is 'earth day' here in savannah (and around the world?) have fun!

Thursday, April 17

i think it would be real fun to finish our bathroom with a similar wall covering technique.. maybe collect papers and magazines from all over the world and different eras?.. suppa cooo a kii (have you ever heard gwen stafani say that in one of her songs.. wow.. her music can be fun.. but i think she maybe only has a marble as a brain.. and not one of the big dough boys.. one of the little cheap ones.. haha.. who am i to talk.. my spelling honestly either makes you laugh and shake your head or simply (and probably more likely) click NEXT.

well... today i officially started working at the hospital as a therapist.. i usually dont offer much insight into my personal life on here.. but there you go... so sorry for the lack of posts lately(who am i appoligising to? me? my midget handful of readers?? ..yes.. you! (erin.. haha)) but i have been wild busy dealing with all my friends at the US social security office, work visa people, border guys, licence and certification people... little question.. when did everyone start to hate their jobs and anyone that may have to use their services.. HORRIBLE experience.. if anyone wats to hear aout it more.. or actually needs some words of advice.. i am your man (or boy). It has been a real battle but i am finally working leagally and making some moula to pay off school, save for more school, and pay a morgage.. lucky us!
i hit up ebay for the first time in a while.. not that a really ever buy anything from ebay.. but it always just kills me to see beautiful items.. both large and small.. slipping through my fingers.. above are just a couple of examples.. i love the big ears on that deer.. i have got a couple little brass mid century style deer going on that i have found (literally in the trash) or got from goodwill.. love the hunt! and that sofa.. wow.. just think how amazing that thing could be.. all low and sleek.. recover the pillow with some of andreas fabric .. its in SC about an hour or so away from us in savannah.. very tempting! any ho.. i have to be on my bike by about 6:30 am tomorrow to get to work so i should get to bed..

Friday, April 11

Together Bookcase by Martino Gamper .. i just love the 'foundish' feel to this.. just so playful and so many perfect little nooks and crannies to perfectly place all your prized posessions (yess... you can put that 8th grade best defensive player award too.. haha) anyway.. hit the thrift stores and get yourself some shelves

when ever i find a cool chair that would hang from our wildly high ceilings (this is not me bragging or boasting.. its a fact. its silly even.. not looking forward to the a/c bill during the summer!) These particular chairs are from the reading room in the museum of contemporary art, puebla, mexico by mexico city based office ludens

well.. seeing how come monday i will be a working occupational therapist at the hospital here in savannah i thought maybe i could give a little insight into things that are of interest in that area of my life.. so.. an occupational therapist (OT).. what do we do... well.. when i say 'what is your occupation' you would reply with _____ (teacher, blogger (how is the pay? ha), designer, etc).. but you need to think more openly about it.. and occupation in my world is ANYTHING that you may be doing throughout your day/life.. both conscious and non-conscious... so.. walking.. thinking, breathing, girpping your fork, typing.. it all falls under my umbrella.. huge right?? so open ended.. that s why i like it i guess? most OT's work in rehab.. so lets say i lose my hand.. i would meet with an OT.. they would look at my life style, interests, environments and then at my current situation and my future goals.. and then problem solve with me to function to the best of my abilities.. it really is intersting.
so.. my real area of interest is fusign the health professions and the world of design.. well more the world of design but just applying general health professional concepts to it.. like client centeredness and things like that.. universal design.. (that remote is not just for people who cannot get up any more... its to make all of our lives easier!!).. so.. i get excited when i see projects such as this one by Ryan Eder .. he recieved IDEA best in show award.. as a student.. congrats! SO his idea was to create a piece of equiptment that met the needs of both able bodied individuals as well as individuals in wheelchairs.. i like that.. one product that makes all of our lives a little better and a little easier.. he has not completly hit somehting unique.. but he has definitally done it with the most ID style i have seen to this point.. so. yup.. this is what i do.

Thursday, April 10

Richard Fine has design this extremely clever and ever soothing packaging for acetaminophen tablets to be sold... i am feeling better already.. hate looking at all thoes ugly, brand happy boxes!!

I knew i had a photo of our little garden still next to our bed somewhere.. there it is!!!!!! obviously you are more excited that me.. i hope.. haha ... i have way too many photos of food clogging up my photo albums... so i am going to start dividing them up... food photos.. and everything else.. another thing i am going to (try) and do... throw more of the food photos (bad way of putting it!) up and open a new blog ... daily food spot.. boy i am creative with the name!!!

ANDREA GRAY mega post

Ohh kay... so this is my first massive post dedicated to the one and only.. Andrea Gray. Lets start with a little bio... born in atlanta and raised in Miami andrea was always a weird and wonderful child.. grew up in a 'interesting' family situation where A LOT of responsibility was put on her at a young age. All thoughout childhood and her akward teens she was constantly drawing, painting and taking photos.. she started her university career at Savannah College of Art and Design in 2003. She met me the year before so decided to come up to cold canada and finish her BFA in textiles at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2006 (yup.. fast track.. extra courses and summers school). Throughout this time she became the most amazing student and employee I have ever seen.. so dedicated to whatever she decided to take on.. she worked at the Anna Leonowens Gallery throughout her time at NSCAD and also came back to SCAD to do a internship at Working Class Studio. She produced amazing work in Halifax and definitally developed a feel for what it is like to be a craft based textile designer (screen print, natural dyes, weaving, sewing, draping, pattern drafting, etc.). When she finished up at NSCAD we decided to come back to Savannah and SCAD for her Masters in Fibers.... enjoy the photos.. and more of my emotional rollercoaster words to come....

digital printing course.. wood grain inspiration

I spy me.. look at the shiny hair!! Digital print.. the details on this one are so beautiful...

Andrea and Paula Wallace.. the prez of SCAD! Open studio night.. that is one of the many amazing little brooches that andrea handed out that night
a few panels of hers from open studio night.. hand printed.. embroidered and loved

yes.. my little shit camera has a macro mode... i am special

cute little panel

this is actually fabric designed by andrea.. i love it.. so we made a little fake tree in her studio and we pinned the little brooches to it so people could interact with it and get a little treat! That tree bark print was a real hit.. especially with all the dads that were being dragged around the studios

some happy brooche wearers... roughly 50 were given out that night.. savannah is not a huge place so it is cool to see a stranger around with one on

andrea wrote a little ltr to a lady at a local shop here.. and never got any reply.. weird right?? i know if i got a ltr that looked this nice i would be getting back with a thank you asap

more digital magic.. this is printed out in yardage in a few great colour ways.. SCAD just hired andrea to be the digital printing technician.. the machine costs over $100 000 dollars.. great experience for her to learn all about it.. but at $5.85 an hour it seems to be a lot of responcibility.. but in any event she looks at it as a learning experience plus she gets to print for a discount and teach others how to use it

i love andreas wood grain drawings.. this is something that she has been drawing since i met her 6 years ago... i think it would look good in a wallpaper with panel size blocks.. haha.. funny

we got bored in miami so we collected leaves and andrea wen to town on them.. they floated in the pool so beautifully.. but thanks to wine i did not get a chance to take a bad photo of them
hey.. now our dull wooden dresser is back to the good life!!!
i think you are getting the idea now.. so just a few more to fill your interest and craving for more.....

andreas little corner studio at SCAD.. there are now 6 people in there!!!! Fibers needs more space!!!
above andreas desk in her studio.. this was taken a while ago now.. so new things up.. but this is just so you can see how much this little lady is producing... you know when you have a class and the teacher assigns WAY TOO MUCH READING... well i would always go the easy route and read a little here and there.. well andrea struggles through the whole thing and then comes to class the nex moring looking like she partied all last night.. but no.. reading... beleive me when i say... her work really does come first.. even before me sometimes.. sobsob.. haha

ok.. so there we have it.. she is just way too bogged down with school to get involved with all the fabulos communities online.. so i am just trying to do my part for her.. i pass on all the amazing things i learn on here.. and loves everyone for that... if you like the work.. send her an email (andreagray@gmail.com) and just post a little comment and i will give her the good news..
thanks everyone and i hope my bad spelling and crap photos have not ruined your experience..
you can see her work at the directions show in new york coming soon... working class studios new outdoor pillow line... and then at the ICFF in new york where her and a fwe classmates are doing a project to desing alternative bedding for the homeless population.. super interesting!!!
take care and nitenite
ps- she doesnt know i did this post.. haha.. i am looking at her sleepy eyes right now trying to finish 20 little embroydery peices for tomorrow.. should make her happy
love you andrea!

I got an email today from an etsy seller who had some real nice vintage finds.. her shop has more but here was one of my favorites... i was thinking it would be cool to do this at home.. with ply or maybe even thick card board? i need to work on my US georgraphy!
ps- we are swimming in pillows right now at our place.. working class studio (at SCAD) just got the pillows in that andrea designed and they hooked us up.. thanks!!

i think i am going to do a little thing on andrea today.. she has been working like a mad(wo)man since she started her masters.. well i guess before that as well and she def deserves some credit..

Stair/Storage, Voets-Theun Architecten 'hey andrea, wouldnt this be cool next to the bed leading to the loft space?' she replies 'shhhhh.. leave me alone jon'.. haha.. living with a dedicated masters student is so fun!!!!!!

cool pad... sorry i dont have any info on it.. i would love to see a few more windows.. lets hope that there are more and we are looking at the north facing side.. as well as patio space on each level.. i do adore this though.. i would be fanastic to place something like this in savannah.. a place that is flooded by wonderful victorians as well as your midcentury bungalows.. super fun!

So today i stumbled upon Maze International and their eco friendly material build Kubo Shelf.. it would be a nice solution to the little problem next to our bed.... we have the ikea mandel bed.. which is geat.. affordable and has storage underneath.. but we also have one of thoes beautiful porcelain garden stools in white that we use as a bed side table.. so to open use the storage we have to move it.. or keep it a distance from the bed.. not good for the midnight water break.. so this wall mounted idea is great... i would love to just post a photo of the bed and situ.. but i cannot find one in my 1000's of photos.. so instead you get this......

efefefefohyouandydotcom montage.. still wait for my invite here!!!!! ha

Arne Quinze is definitally an interesting individual... so the story goes.. he was homeless at 15 and stole food to eat and only had one thing to live for.. his creativity.. dreamy story right? This Belgian artist has done just about everything so far.. architecture, cars, fashion, installation, furniture, art director... he seems to carry a lot of controversy around him as well.. his gig at burning man created some heat.. leterally (ha.. i am such a loser) and the fact that his 'scrap like' materials of choice are insdeed NOT scrap kind of bother me.. but hey.. he has great hair! In any event i am truely attracted the most work this man produces especially his 'love gun - pink' painting.. its great.. for some reason! Alright arne.. keep it up brudda and hit the scrap yard a little more often.. there is lots of great stuff there!!!!!

Friday, April 4

just look how amazing that blue is! its just amazing the possibilities it holds! i really do love it! i found the image on the purple area blog ... always great stuff on there so take a peek some time!

Ole Jensen designed this great mobile/foldable tub.. from what i can see you just attach the tube to your water source (good for out door as well) and let the thing fill up.. and when you are done.. OF COURSE... use that water to give your plans a drink! i like the idea.. i have not taken a bath since i was about 5 but i still like the idea!

Philippe Malouin has designed this 'Hanger chair'... i really like it.. it seems like a great and functional solution for storing extra chairs.. smarty pants!

Wednesday, April 2

ionna vautrin and guillaume delvigne has put this beautiful piece together.. it is so amazing.. i would love to change it up everyonce and a with new styles and colours! happppy times! (yes.. i am bored and borat is on in the background)

Oleg Morev has designed this interesting concept... the door lock maze.. not sure i would like to face this in the middle of a drunken night wheni have left the stove on and now we are a blaze.. but i do like it! supaa cooo

well the cool hunter has decided to open a store.. yay? sure.. why not.. in any event .. i must admit that these little baby suits for the snow are wonderful..
